This Week....

...we finally finished planting out the bare root roses. They had been sitting in a nursery bed since December with their roots covered with earth waiting to be planted out in the field when the ground/weather allowed. But due to the frost, rain, waterlogged soil etc there were very few windows of opportunity to get them planted. But, hooray, they're all done now and we have what looks like a sea of rather unimpressive twigs sticking out of the ground! However, they have already starting to put out healthy shoots so will soon look much better. There are no two ways about it, roses are still the most requested flower for weddings, so we experimented with a few dozen plants last year and had some good results so decided to invest in a further few hundred plants to boost supply. We have chosen the most disease resistant varieties that we could find as we don't want to have to spray them, we have a range of colours from white to deep pink and lovely creams and pale yellows. Delicious!

Sunny Spring Wedding at Hendall Manor Barns

So pleased to wake up to glorious sunshine today - everyone deserves blue sky on their wedding day! We did flowers for a wedding at the stunning Hendall Manor Barns in Heron's Ghyll, East Sussex, so not far to travel for us! The ceremony and reception were held in the huge converted sandstone barn, which has vast windows bathing everything in sunlight. The bride wanted quintessential Spring flowers, mainly tulips in a mixture of vibrant and strong colours, so we used a combination of tulips, narcissus and foliages with a few anemones. Sadly due to the appalling winter, our tulips aren't quite doing their thing yet so we had to buy some in (British obv). We did table arrangements and a long garland to snake along a handrail as well as the bridal bouquet and buttonholes. It all looked really special and colourful, the tables were decorated beautifully by Amuse Private Catering (not quite finished in these pics I hasten to add!). The garland was a whopping 8 metres long, and looked rather fab! Will hopefully get some better pics from the photographer Lucy Carnaghan....

Spring Has Sprung! (sort of...)

Welcome to our new blog! The start to the season for 2013 has been a long time coming and we are hopeful that we have finally seen the back of officially the most awful winter ever!  We are just starting to harvest our first flowers of the year - things are still some weeks behind the normal schedule of events but we are able to begin picking stuff which is great. We will be posting lots of flower-related things, from growing to selecting and arranging. We'll also cover some of our weddings and show how we do the arrangements. In the meantime, here are a few pics of our flowers to welcome our long-awaited Spring!
